Tracked Carriers & Site Dumpers
Site dumpers and tracked carriers haul soil, concrete, rubble and materials around work sites where trucks cannot go. They are small, but they roll over easily on slopes and tip into trenches. Many serious injuries involve inexperienced operators.

Types
- Ride-on site dumpers with a front skip and a seat.
- Walk-behind dumpers (power buggies) controlled by an operator on foot or on a platform.
- Tracked carriers with a bed or skip for rough ground.
Hazards
- Rollovers on slopes, uneven ground, ramps and when turning with a raised skip. See Equipment Rollovers.
- Falling into trenches or off edges when dumping at an unsupported edge. See Excavation Edge Protection.
- Poor visibility over a loaded front skip.
- Struck-by hazards for pedestrians and other equipment. See Backing & Spotters.
- Overloading and unbalanced loads.
- Operator ejection when not wearing a seat belt.
Safe operation
- Only trained and authorized operators should use them. Read the manual and know the rated load and slope limit.
- Do a pre-start check of brakes, steering, tracks or tires, lights, hydraulics and seat belt.
- Use a ROPS and a seat belt where fitted and do not carry passengers.
- Do not exceed the rated load; keep the skip low when traveling, and travel straight up and down slopes rather than across them.
- Keep to a safe speed for the ground. Slow down on turns and rough ground.
- Use wheel stops or berms at tipping points and trench edges, and a spotter.
- Look around before moving; use mirrors or cameras if provided.
- Park on level ground with the skip lowered, the brake on and the key removed.
- Do not drive with the skip raised.
- Do not unload near an edge without a barrier or stop.
- Do not use on slopes beyond the maker's limit.
