Reciprocating Saws (Sawzall)
The reciprocating saw is the go-to demolition saw. It cuts through wood, nails, pipe and drywall, which also means it cuts through hidden wires and pipes.

Before cutting
- Check for electrical wires, gas lines and water pipes. Shut off and lock out utilities when cutting into walls, floors or ceilings.
- Use the right blade for the material, and make sure it’s locked in the clamp
- Wear safety glasses, gloves and hearing protection
Cutting safely
- Hold the saw with both hands: one on the handle, one on the front grip.
- Press the shoe firmly against the work so the saw doesn’t buck.
- Start slowly with variable speed, then increase.
- Watch for the blade striking hidden objects behind the cut.
- Support material so it doesn’t pinch the blade or fall on you.
- Don’t touch the blade right after cutting. It’s hot.
- Don’t cut overhead material that will drop on you.
- Don’t change blades with the battery in or the cord plugged in.
