Steel Erection

Structural ironworkers raise and connect steel at height, often with nothing but the beam beneath them. OSHA’s steel erection standard has special rules for this work.

Walking steel

Ironworkers walk beams that can be slick with rain, frost or oil. Shear studs welded on top can trip you, which is why they’re often installed after decking. Keep the steel clean, use fall protection, and don’t rush. Never walk under a piece being hoisted, and use tag lines to control loads.
