Workplace First Aid, CPR and AED: Knowledge Course

How to respond in the first minutes: scene safety, calling 911, checking a person, CPR for adults, children and infants, using an AED, choking, severe bleeding, burns, shock, heart attack, stroke, seizures, overdose, heat and cold emergencies, fractures, eye and chemical injuries, and building a workplace first aid program.

In a serious emergency, the person who acts in the first few minutes often decides whether a coworker lives. This in-depth course teaches the knowledge side of workplace first aid, CPR and AED use in plain language, following current guidance from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross and OSHA. You will learn how to size up a scene, call for help, check a person for responsiveness, breathing and bleeding, perform high-quality CPR on adults, children and infants, use an automated external defibrillator, help someone who is choking, control severe bleeding with pressure and a tourniquet, treat burns, shock, eye and chemical injuries, recognize heart attack, stroke, seizures, low blood sugar, anaphylaxis, opioid overdose, heat stroke and hypothermia, handle fractures, head and spine injuries and electrical injuries, and how employers build a first aid program with supplies, trained responders and OSHA compliance. It is a knowledge course only. It does not give you a CPR, first aid or AED certification: those require hands-on skills practice and testing with an approved provider such as the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross or the National Safety Council. Always call 911 for serious emergencies and follow the instructions of the emergency dispatcher.
