Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 11, 2026

FirstDayTraining.com is owned and operated by Todd Allyn Media Inc. (“we,” “us”). This policy explains what information we collect when you use the site, how we use it, and the choices you have.

The short version

  • You can use the whole site without creating an account or telling us who you are.
  • If you don’t sign in, your training progress, and any name you type on a certificate, is saved only in your own browser.
  • If you create a free account, we store your name, email address, password (scrambled), progress, checklist ticks and certificates so they work on all your devices.
  • Anyone with one of your certificate numbers can check it on our verify page, which shows your name, the topic, the score and the date.
  • If you email us or use one of our forms, we use what you send only to reply and to improve the site.
  • We do not sell or rent your personal information.

Information stored on your device

When you mark a topic complete, pass a quiz, type a name for a certificate of completion, or switch between light and dark mode, the site saves that information in your browser’s local storage so it’s there next time. If you aren’t signed in, this information stays on your device and we don’t receive it. You can erase it at any time with Reset my progress on the My Training page, or by clearing your browser’s site data.

Information you send us

When you request a topic, ask about custom training, report a mistake or otherwise contact us, we receive whatever you include, such as your name, email address, phone number, organization and message. Our forms send this to us by email through our web host, and the form also records the date, time and your IP address so we can block spam and abuse. If you email us directly, your email provider delivers the message. We use this information to:

  • Reply to you and follow up on your request
  • Decide which topics to write next and fix errors
  • Keep a record of business inquiries

Please don’t send sensitive information such as Social Security numbers, medical records or details of an injury claim.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our hosting provider may automatically log technical information when your browser requests a page. This can include your IP address, browser type, device type, the pages you visit and the date and time. These logs are used to deliver the site, keep it secure and fix problems.

We do not currently use analytics tracking or social media tracking pixels.

Advertising

This site is free and is supported by advertising from Google AdSense. If you click Accept on the advertising notice, Google and its advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies, and may collect information such as your IP address and the pages you view, to show and measure ads, including personalized ads based on your browsing. If you click Decline, we do not load Google’s ad code and you will see no ads. Ads are not shown on account, certificate, search or paid-course pages. You can change your choice at any time: change my advertising choice. You can also learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and manage personalized ads at adssettings.google.com. We do not control the cookies set by advertisers.

Accounts

Accounts are free and optional. If you create one, we collect and store:

  • Account details: your name (as you want it on certificates), email address and password. Passwords are stored only as a one-way scrambled code (a hash); we can’t see your password.
  • Training records: the topics you complete and when, your checklist ticks, and the certificates you earn, including the topic, quiz score, date and certificate number.
  • Sign-in records: a session cookie that keeps you signed in, plus the IP address, browser type and time of each session, so we can keep accounts secure. We also keep short-lived records of sign-in, sign-up and password reset attempts to block abuse.

We use this information to run your account, sync your training across devices, issue and verify certificates, send account emails (such as confirming your address and resetting your password) and protect the site. We don’t send marketing emails from your account. Account data is stored in a database at our web host.

Certificate verification: each certificate earned while signed in has a number. Anyone who has that number, such as an employer you show your certificate to, can enter it on our Verify a Certificate page and see your name, the topic, the quiz score and the date. We don’t show your email or other account details there.

Your controls: on My Account you can change your name and password, sign out of all devices, download a copy of your data, or delete your account. Deleting your account permanently removes your account details, training records and certificates; your certificate numbers will then no longer verify. Signing out removes your account’s training data from that browser.

Paid courses and payments

If you buy a course, the payment is made on a PayPal window. We never see or store your card number, bank details or PayPal password. PayPal collects and uses that information under its own privacy statement. We receive and keep only what we need to give you access and keep business records: your account, the course you bought, the price, the date, the PayPal order number, and your lesson, quiz and exam progress and results. If you redeem an access code instead, we record the code used. We keep purchase records as long as needed for accounting, refunds, disputes and tax rules, even if you later delete your account. To use the PayPal button, your browser loads a script from PayPal, which may set its own cookies and receive your IP address and device information.

How we share information

We don’t sell, rent or trade personal information. We share it only:

  • With service providers who help us run the site or our email, such as our hosting and email providers, who may use it only to provide those services
  • With PayPal, which processes payments for paid courses
  • When required by law, subpoena or other legal process
  • To protect the rights, property or safety of Todd Allyn Media Inc., our users or others
  • As part of a merger, sale or transfer of our business, in which case this policy will continue to apply to the information

Links to other websites

Our pages link to OSHA, state agencies, manufacturers and other outside sites. Those sites have their own privacy practices, and we aren’t responsible for them. When we add videos, we will use privacy-enhanced embedding where it is available.

Children

This site is written for workers, apprentices, homeowners and families. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

How long we keep information

We keep emails and inquiries only as long as we need them to respond, run our business and meet legal requirements, and then delete them. We keep account data until you delete your account. Expired sessions, used email links and abuse-prevention records are deleted automatically, usually within a few days. Accounts that are never confirmed may be deleted.

Security

We use reasonable measures to protect the information we receive, and the site is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. No method of sending or storing information is completely secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us to tell you what personal information we have about you, to correct it or to delete it. Account holders can also do this themselves on the My Account page. Depending on where you live, such as California or another state with a consumer privacy law, you may have additional rights. We will not discriminate against you for using them. To make a request, email us at the address below.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site changes. We will post the new version here and change the effective date at the top.
