Jobsite Tablets, Laptops & Shared Devices
Many crews now use tablets for plans, laptops for scheduling and phones for photos. A tablet left in a truck or a shared login that never signs out can expose company data, customer information and your own accounts.

Common risks
- Loss or theft from trucks, trailers and the jobsite.
- Shared logins that let anyone see anything, and make it unclear who did what.
- Unlocked screens and apps that stay signed in.
- Public or open Wi-Fi. See Public Wi-Fi.
- Unupdated software with known security holes. See Software Updates.
- Dust, water, drops and heat that wreck devices and lose data.
- Personal use that brings malware or scams onto a company device. See Malware & Antivirus.
Habits that help
- Use your own login or user profile when the system supports it. Do not share passwords. See Strong Passwords.
- Turn on two-step verification for company email and apps. See Two-Factor Authentication.
- Set an automatic screen lock with a short timeout, and lock the screen when you walk away.
- Sign out of apps on shared devices when you finish. Do not tick "remember me."
- Keep devices out of sight in vehicles, or take them with you. Use a cable lock or secure box where needed.
- Install updates when they arrive, and use only approved apps.
- Use a rugged case and a screen cover for dust and water.
- Back up important files to company storage, not just the device. See Backups.
Photos and files
- Jobsite photos may show customers, plans, license plates or security details. Follow company rules before posting. See Jobsite Photos Online.
- Save photos to the project folder, not to your personal cloud account, if the employer requires it.
If a device is lost or stolen
- Tell your supervisor or IT contact right away. Speed matters.
- Use remote lock or wipe if available. See Lost or Stolen Phone.
- Change passwords for accounts that were on the device.
- Report theft to the police if the company requires it.
Tip: If you use your own phone for work, ask what your employer can see or erase on it. Keep work and personal accounts separate where you can.
